About us

Meet Devolutions, the team behind RDM

Devolutions is a global leader in secure software solutions, helping organizations bridge IT management and security. Since 2010, more than 1 million users in over 140 countries have relied on its tools for remote connection management, password management, and privileged access management.

The mission is balance: simplify remote access, strengthen privileged access management, and enforce robust security controls — so IT teams can work efficiently without compromising protection. And unlike providers focused solely on large enterprises, Devolutions puts small and mid-sized businesses first, with security that’s simple, affordable, and effective enough to keep them competitive.

Our story

Where we came from

Devolutions started in 2010 in founder David Hervieux’s basement, around a single idea: IT pros should never have to juggle ten tools to reach one server. By 2011 the first office followed; by 2012, 100,000 IT pros were using Remote Desktop Manager. Multi-user demand brought Devolutions Server (launched in 2013 as RDM Server), and a former golf clubhouse became headquarters in 2014 as the team outgrew its walls — pinball machine collection included.

In 2015, “Remote Desktop Manager Standard” was renamed Remote Desktop Manager Free — because the product was so useful that some users refused to believe it actually cost nothing. Mobile apps for Android and iOS arrived in 2016, the year RDM passed 250,000 users. In January 2017, David Hervieux was named CEO of the year as Remote Desktop Manager 12 and Devolutions Server 4 shipped hundreds of improvements.

The recent chapter is about foundations and family: a $3M investment in the Avalonia UI framework (July 2025) powering RDM’s cross-platform rebuild, the PowerShell Universal acquisition (October 2025), the UniGetUI acquisition (March 2026), and Devolutions Ventures (September 2026) — an investment arm for the IT and MSP ecosystem built on seven investments, acquisitions, and sponsorships since 2025.
